The Makauwahi Cave Reserve on Kaua'i, the largest limestone cave in Hawaii, is a treasure trove of fossils, ancient plant remains, and evidence of early human activity, offering a glimpse into thousands of years of environmental history. We got lost with our bikes trying to find it and, though we never made it to the bottom of the cave, the view of the coastline was unforgettable. Visitors are asked to brush their shoes to protect the delicate ecosystem, preventing the spread of invasive species and preserving this incredible site.
